  1. Yes that could be the case too. Bad Woofers are common problem in aging speakers By the way I love that Marantz 2270 Receiver (70 watts of power). That is probably a very nice match up with the Advents. the room size is just about perfect I am guessing for your listening pleasure. http://www.classic-audio.com/marantz/2270.html
  2. Hi There, Your experience bassment142 with the Maestro's was unfortunate. Under different circumstances you may see it another way. I think they are a very nice "neutral sounding" speaker. Not a bass thumping three-way I do agree with that opinion, but can get the air moving with the correct setup. Everything should be part of system that is "cohesive". I am software and system engineer so I have that geek perspective I suppose. I had the Carver Amazing Speakers (Mark IV, - OAK) but I had not enough amplification / power to drive em, also poor integration with the other Advents (sonic incompatibility) and the room size was too small to get the most out of them (and to appreciate their innovation). Luckily, I broke even with them ($1200.00). The Advent Maestro's replaced them very nicely at 1/10 the cost. Sized appropriately now as part of a cohesive system, they are part of a compliment of Advents Speakers (Legacy & 6003's) together as my main system to deliver a concert experience. Great for almost any music the Advent Maestro is. However, not Metal or Rap music though. I never get tired of listening to them with my music collections. I must say though that to get the very best out of them (Maestro's) you need a powerful and accurate Amp that can drive them correctly in order to bring out the sonic detail desired. Unpowered amplification with these speakers will leave anyone a little disappointed. I have a Carver M1.5 (350 max watts) recently refreshed (new caps and opamps) driving them today. I am hardly beyond the 9 clock position with the preamp gain. They rock the house or ease you into a musical trance at the end of the day depending on the mood. I have not tried this yet, but my second audio system using a Onkyo 7.1 receiver with the Advents Maestro's would sound OK I bet, but nothing like the sonic clarity and realism I would get with the current Carver setup. I the next several months I will update the crossover with new caps in these to preserve their personal value. They are not going anywhere as my main speaker setup.
  3. Sounds like an excellent find. I am also looking out for some Advent Heritage speakers for my second theater system which is an Onkyo setup. I have a Advent center speaker and a passive Asvent subwoofer powered by a carver amp for this audio setup. Massive bass. The Heritage Speakers would help bring out the Highs better than the Sony speakers I have for this 7.1 setup. I have never heard them before. However, others have told me they are a fine speaker. Look forward to your review once complete with the re-foam and placed it service.
  4. How did you make out with these Advents? I think if you put some care into them they will fetch $200.00
  5. The Other 4 Advents - 6003's and Legacy II , all in immaculate condition and sound amazing!!
  6. I love my Maestro speakers. The dynamic range is excellent and most music will sound pleasant on these Advents!
  7. Just picked up some Advent Baby Ii from a private sale on Craigslist. Cheap price and in very good condition. They needed new foam for the woofers, which I fixed last weekend for about $20. Listening to them as they are powered by my Carver M1.5 AMP. They sound very good. I must say they sound excelelnt for Jazz and classical. For movies and soundtracks they meld well with the other advents I have. Currently they are in place of my Maestros which I sitting idle as I burn in Advent babys. New they went for $200 as I understand it. For my 80's Rock they are not as compelling or as dynamic as the other Advent (Jensen) era Speakers I have in service in my listening studio. But, they are still very nice for all other kinds of music.

  9. Today, I purchased another Carver amp. This time reunited with the M4.0 amp from 1995. I decided that I had two amps that I could could now mono-block one amp to one speaker. Each Advent 6003 has its own power amp of 1000 watts. Like I would never use that. Lol. But, the extra power does feed these Advent 6003 beasts. And man do they deliver!! They are fed with a clear and powerful amplifier(s) that delivers a concert like experience thru these 3-ways. Listening to Pink Floyd , Triumph, Heart, and Stevie Nicks just sounds amazingly live like. And these technologies were engineered in the 80's! Ha. I would challenge this setup with any sub - $1200 speaker system you could purchase at Best Buy or other!!! if you can find these Advent 6003's at a good, price you should get them without any second thoughts... If you indeed have a nice powerful amp to bring out the best of them. Next I plan to provide a review of this new Carver M4.0 t with my Advent Legacy II pairing.
  10. Yes, that is the plan for the winter. Start with the 600, then the legacy II, and finally the Maestro. My small winter project. I am quite handy with the soldering iron and will replace the caps across all three pair.
  11. Ola First Time, I really enjoy the Legacy II as well. They are good for all music types. They were my first Advent purchased back in 1988. I like the accurate and precise sound I get from the Advent (Jensen Era) speakers. I had Boston Acoustic and Cerwin Vega speakers to complement the Legacy II in 1990's with my Carver system. Bought the Carver Amazing (Mark IV) and they were nice, but not very efficient. The two three-way Advents I have (Maestro and 6003) are just outstanding. Addicted to their sound reproduction versus other sub $1k's speakers. They were added in 2013/15 from a very well-cared collector of legacy Amercian-made speakers. So very clear and full spectrum of frequency response.
  12. Maestro are the fronts the legacy are the rears and the 6003 are the sides. Carver M1.0 & M1.5 all recapped in the past 3 years.
  13. Hello All, I am new to this site. What a treasure trove of a forum. All things Advent speakers. Love it. Ok, just wanted to parrot about my experience with Advents. I have in my main system 3 pairs of Advents and one carver cinema 5.1 front speaker pair. These are all powered by Carver M1.0 and M1.5 Amplifiers. I have two C-1 pre-amps with Sonic Holography. All of which has been re-capped in the past 3 years and it better than when new. BillD modification on the C-1 I would take these Advent & Carver combinations against anything I heard today at the big box stores and even many so-called HiFi specially stores.. at least with my ears. I love the sound of my Advents from the highs and the strong bass response. I do think from my experience that a powerful amplifier is absolutely needed for the speaker models I have collected to bring out the most of them sonically. Advent Maestro - Immaculate condition (Bought used from a collector in 2014) Will replace the caps in the fall 2016. Any suggestion for a modification is welcomed. The Highs and midrange are so very smooth an accurate to compliment the bass octave from the woofer! Advent Legacy II - VG Condition (Bought new in 1988) Reformed in 2013. Will recap them in Winter 2016-2017. Awesome bass response. They have outlasted the Cerwin Vegas, Boston Acoustics and the Carver Amazing Speakers (Mark IV) speakers. They never fail to deliver. Advent 6003 - Immaculate Condition (Bought this summer 2016 from a teacher who was unfamiliar with the model and history). This was a very curious speaker and did not know really of its existence in the product portfolio (83-87) until I saw it on craigslist. Glad I picked them up. Had the drivers reformed the drivers this past month by a Denver expert. OMG they sound good! However, they need a strong amplifier to drive them and the Carvers provide that just fine. When Carver stated that there products would delver "Powerful Musical Accurate".. they must have had Advent's in mind to compliment the complete sound experience. I feel spoiled and very happy with my system where Advents are the primary drivers of sound reproduction in my personal concert hall. lol Aloha
