owlsplace Posted October 2, 2014 Report Share Posted October 2, 2014 I decided to hotrod my last AR-5 acquisition so I've been working on the cabinet and today I was hand sanding the back after removing the labels and after most of the crud was off there was still a spot or two. One of them happened to be the serial number of the speaker stamped in the wood.And here all the time I thought AR was too lazy to do that!Roger Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The cabinet vendors used die stamps for their cabinets in some cases. I have seen two different rubber stamps used on cabinet interiors, and this pic shows the only place I've ever seen a die stamp used on the cabinet exterior - - in this case, noting AR-3 cabinets. That is the first I've seen of that die-stamped serial number! Maybe I've seen it and didn't pay attention to it, but I've looked in a lot of cabinets and never noticed it to my knowledge. Maybe since it was under the label I didn't pay attention to it.The letter in front of the serial number stands for the chronological placement in the product line. For example, "C 06740" would be an AR-3, the third AR speaker, with the serial number following.
