Why do threads keep getting shut down here?

I thought the kitchen was for more controversial discussions.

There is more moderating going on here than in the main forum.

"When things get heated, expect to find discussions ending up here. Debates related to classic speakers and electronics are ok, but keep things civil."

The Kitchen was created as a forum for debates about classic speakers and electronics that tend to go long and become very theoretical or technical and crowd out the historical and repair/restoration topics of the main forum. It is not a nursery room or a setting for smackdown matches.

Personal attacks are not "civil," and will result in thread closure. The alternative would be to ban posters for inappropriate behavior or to delete/censor posts, both of which Mark would prefer not to do.

Disagree with peoples' opinions or behavior if you wish, but do not attack their intelligence, their honesty or their motives for posting.

Thanks Gene for shutting down the ideal speaker thread. :P

Start it up again.

All's I said was that the ideal room should not be a significant part of it.

[sO, are the three five-star votes for Gene's shutting down or for Pete's "Why...?" ;) ]

Twern't me who chalked up the stars ;)

The thread deteriorated into the same discussions hashed out before in other threads here in the kitchen. Besides, I don't like hash anyway :P

As I said when I closed down the thread, feel free to start a new one to try continuing the discussion. As long as the participants stay on-topic and resist the urge to throw barbs at one another, it will remain open.

Did you ever read my review of it? It contains plenty of details. A version of it is posted on this site, somewhere.

Alas, in your rush to criticize what you (and only you) consider a significant omission, you missed the salient theme.

Enjoy your retirement, Howard....

Zilchster ;)

At the moment, I am pretty angry at a few people here. Given their obvious inability or unwillingness to introspect and self-police, I am starting to favor outright bans.

At a minimum, any post which contains the words, "you" or "me," or which mentions any member's name or screen name, should be immediately deleted.

Sorry to say it, but I think has come to this.

I agree with Ken that things have gotten out of hand on occasion. Perhaps a three strikes rule would work rather than committing to an immediate total ban. I for one no longer feel comfortable asking questions due to a few rancid responses from a very select few who have left me thinking their mind set is "I'm a genius, your an idiot" attitude.

I question theory for two basic reasons. To better understand it, and it's not yet proven fact.
