Carlspeak
If the voice coil is over driven with too much power, the voice coil will overheat. If it gets too hot, the heat will cause the paper voice coil former to swell up in spots near it's base. The swelling looks like small, mumps-like bumps that close up the critical air gap and create rubbing with the center pole piece and ultimately, an unusable woofer.A document showing what the issue looks like and a way to fix it is available. PM me for a copy. Couldn't upload it as an attachment. The RCF woofer has no cooling means so, this will always be a potential issue. The key is to not drive the speaker too hard.
