rrcrain
What is a good replacement for the 10 inch woofer in the AR90?
DavidR
I've never seen any for sale.I believe they are 8 ohm and unique to the AR90
ra.ra
I believe David is correct about this. The correct part number is 200031, and from reading the drawings in the Library, it appears that this driver was used only in the AR-90. A portion from this driver's spec dwg. is attached. RoyC
The most unique thing about the AR-90's 10 inch woofer is the dust cap. The "8 ohm" (dcr 6.5+/- ohm) 10 inch AR foam surround woofers used in the AR-2ax, 5, AR-12 and others will all work fine, regardless of their part numbers. Just make sure dcr is around 6.5 ohms.Roy
DavidR
Roy, would these work? I forgot what speaker model they came out of.
ra.ra
Roy, that is great advice for the OP (and the rest of us). My first thought was that maybe the 10" woofer from the AR-92 might be a suitable replacement, until I saw the dcr spec (3.3 ohm) for that woofer was so very different from the AR-90 woofer. I had expected to find these two spec measurements reversed for these particular speaker models, as I had mistakenly assumed that the AR-92 was a nominal 6 ohm speaker (like the 93 and 94), rather than the proper nominal 4 ohm rating. Nonetheless, it was surprising to see that these two models in fact employed two different woofers, and the differences in specs of the 90 and 92 woofer was also unexpected. Re: dust cap, it appears that the 90 has not only the same primary dust cap as the 92 woofer, but additionally a secondary "cosmetic" dust cap. ra.ra
David, those may be very similar in performance, I think they might be from AR-8's.
RoyC
Roy, would these work? I forgot what speaker model they came out of.The label in your photo seems to say "AR-8" on it, which would work. Just confirm dcr (and polarity) before installation.Roy

michiganpat
in a pinch, until you find a suitable AR replacement, this woofer is reasonably close from a DCR, Fs and sensitivity...http://www.miscospeakers.com/speakers/OC10W-8Dit can be bought here:http://meniscusaudio.com/eclipse-w1038r-p-567.html
stupidhead
Hi Richard,See this..Also, I'm wondering if you'd do me a favor. For some reason I can't post on CSP. I don't know if it's my computer or the site. There's a guy there looking for an AR90 10" woofer. I have an AR factory replacement for this woofer. Do you mind passing by email along to him? Thanks in advance!Baco99@mac.comBrianwhich is an excerpt from a pm from Brian on AK. Shoot him an email, sounds like he has what you are looking for. Also, if anybody has an idea how to help him gain access to CSP please reach out to him.Geoff
