Dynaco A25 Vent Damping

Does anyone have any guidance on how much damping I should be using in the vent of the Dynaco A25? The the material I'm working with is typical fiberglass insulation...I bought a small roll at the hardware store. Perhaps a better question is how do I know when I've got them "properly" damped?

Asked another way...what is the effect on the sound of the woofer from having too much damping? Too little?

Thanks very much for any advice or direction you might be able to provide.

Too much damping would make the box almost like a sealed box and reduce bass output. Too little and the box would behave more like a vented box with an incorrectly sized vent (slot opening).

If you don't have acoustic measurement equipment, then you'll have to go by ear unless someone here has removed and weighed the FG in an A25.

From what I've seen of A25's, the FG is moderately stuffed (if that makes any sense). You could start out lightly stuffing and gradually adding more until the bass seems to your satisfaction (i.e. not too boomy and not almost non-existant).

Thanks. What measurements would I need to do, and to what specification?

Also, when you say that too little damping would have the effect of an overly large port in a vented speaker, can I assume that this means boomy, loose bass?

I've already done some tuning by ear, and even with what appears to be a fairly light layer of damping compared to my other pair of Dynacos (in which the original insulation is still in place), they don't seem to have as much low end output. And, the tuning by ear process is rather tedious since I have to replace the mesh each time I change the amount of insulation (otherwise, the air movement pushes it out...thereby changing the result).

I did see that with no damping, the cone movement appears to be excessive. Other than the effect on sound quality, will having "too little" damping create any risks to the woofers?
