ligs
Here is a relatively new LD22 Low Distortion 22mm Tweeter from CSS. It combines a smooth frequency response and low distortion and it has been tested by quite a few speaker designers. http://techtalk.parts-express.com/showthread.php?241344-New-CSS-tweeters/page2 Compared to HiVi Q1R 1-1/8" textile dome tweeter, which has been recommended as a candidate for AR3a tweeter, LD 22 will provide better dispersion in the top octave due to its smaller dome center. RoyC
There are a number of tweeters which can work as replacements for the old AR tweeter (with the appropriate crossover modification), and some are likely "better" than the Hi Vi tweeter. It appears the LD22 could be one of them. What makes the Hi Vi tweeter popular, however, is that it fits the cabinet hole with no modifications, has a high performance/low cost ratio, and only requires a simple-to-implement crossover modification.I personally believe the dispersion "issue" has been overstated, and is not a factor for most people, especially when compared to the HiVi tweeter's other attributes. With that said, it is always fun to experiment when one has the motivation and know-how to do so.Roy
