saxmanjack
OK, I know it's not in good form to join a forum just to sell something, but I'll definitely be involved here in the future - still have the AR-11's I bought new in the late '70's and will contribute to discussions about that model (and seek advice on replacing the foam surrounds on mine!) when I finally have the time to get back into actually listening to music. These 2a's are in fantastic physical condition (photos in my ad on Craigslist), but I think the attenuator controls have failed. No sound from the midrange and tweeter on one of the speakers, but the tweeter will speak on the other if you fiddle with the control. Woofers sound great. Acquired these about ten years ago, used them for a bit back then, but I seem to remember that I could get all drivers to work by playing with the attenuator controls. They have been sitting unused since. Priced them at $175 for the pair on CL, don't know if that's out of line, feel free to make an offer...Thanks,Jack
stan461
If they are 3a's, that's dirt cheap! If they are 2a's, that is a fair price. All AR speaker prices have risen dramatically in the last couple of years with AR3's & AR3a's leading the way.You have :"pair of AR-2a's (Boston area)"in the header. And then:"These 3a's are in fantastic physical condition (photos in my ad on Craigslist),"later on in the body. You will be getting many, many responses very soon. JKent
For the benefit of other members I'm going to post a link. Since I have nothing to do with the sale and will not benefit in any way I "think" this is OK by CSP rules (if not, Gene or Carl can delete it). Those look like very nice 2a's. I happen to have a pair and although I'm not currently using them I like them very much. Mine have oil-filled caps and if yours do the caps should be left. Just pop in a pair of L-pads or restore the original pots assuming the drivers are fine.-Kenthttp://boston.craigslist.org/nos/ele/4477615166.html
saxmanjack
Thanks for posting the link, Kent.Well, I "worked" the control knobs a bit, and can get all the drivers to sound at certain positions on the knobs...
