Power Amp for KEF 107s?

My dad's old power amp is having some problems, and while I'm looking into getting it repaired, I also want to know what my options are for getting a replacement amp for these beefy KEF 107s. The amp that has been driving them for the past 25 years is a Nakamichi Stasis PA-7. I see them going for $1000 and more on ebay today. My dad passed away in 2001, so it's up to me to see the old stereo into the future. My budget is $500 tops. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the CSP!

Take a look at this thread: http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/IP.Board/index.php?showtopic=7581

The Crown XLS series has several models. Here is a more powerful one at the top of your limit: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=245-504

Thanks Kent! I've bookmarked the xls1000, which has plenty of power. I'm hoping the old Nakamichi can be brought up to specs for less than my $500 budget, as 25 years of service is not to be dismissed, but I'm not holding my breath. If it can't, I'll pick up the Crown and give it a try.

That Nak may well be worth restoring. I'm not familiar with it, but googled and found this outfit in Ontario: http://www.dnaelectr..._pa-7_pics.html

There's lots of info on the 'net, which I imagine you've read. Those Nak amps were a Nelson Pass "Stasis" designs, licensed through Threshold. By all accounts a very nice and very durable amp.

My technician in NJ is a genius and may very well be able to bring it up to spec. He's not into wholesale recapping or other "audiophile mods" but is a master technician. Try contacting Tim at Bristol Electronics: 201-447-4299.
