Did I put the cart in front of the horse a bit too much?😁

Thanks, they were my wife's a loooong time ago. I've been using JRiver Media Center v.18 for years. I think I started using an earlier version by around 2007-8 when I built my first PC server for our home and upgraded when MC18 came out. I've only used it for my Wi-Fi music server, no video or online streaming services. I like it, it's versatile and has substantial DSP/DSD capabilities above my pay grade.

It only took 4 years give or take a couple weeks, but I finally brought the Model 20s down from the attic and serviced them. All went well, and I'm quite happy with the results. @JKent you were dead on. There isn't much going on below about 47Hz, but the rest is there, and the signature "AR" sound is nice. I'm using them in my barn being driven by a Topping TP60 chip-amp with an old XP PC for the music files running JRiver. Perfect for my particular application. Thank you all for your help (again) all of these years (decades. really)!
  4. I have to agree. Roy has helped me innumerable times. Thanks again, sir!
  5. I agree with Glenn completely. I recently updated my old AR3a rebuild post from 2012, because the original pots I thoroughly cleaned and reused had failed once again, after only 4 or 5 years. I had also replaced the woofer's foam surrounds, and rebuilt the crossovers. This time, however, I decided to purchase the pots currently being sold on eBay by "capatianfantastic07" instead of once again dealing with the original and problematic pots, only to risk them failing again very soon. Beginning on pg. 5 of the post (here: http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/IP.Board/index.php?/topic/7440-upcoming-ar3a-project/), I documented the installation of these new pots. They are a drop-in replacement, and don't require any modifications to the crossover networks, or cabinets. Yes, they're a bit pricey compared to L-Pads for sure but, I still wanted to maintain them as close to original as possible. I couldn't be happier with the results, and installation was very straightforward and simple. I did need to make a couple of creative decisions as to how they should be installed, because of the tabs, and threaded mount differences - you can read those observations in my post. Nothing anyone else couldn't have done on their own. Also, Chris rebuilt my tweeters this time. One was effectively dead. Like others here, I can attest to the quality of his work, and tell you you'll be very happy with the results. It's no wonder they still command such a high value on the vintage audio market.

? hmmm...I have a pair of these stashed. Never tried them out. How might they compare to something like the Lg. Advents?
  8. A comment and question for RoyC, and/or another of the authors. When I used the "white dot" notation on pg.10 Fig 3.5, I purposely checked my mid range pot at center post B and post #1 and set it at 3.25 ohms as specified, however, I discovered that the pot's locating tab would then be 180degrees from the way it came out of the crossover. I checked and double checked my reading and the location of the tab in relation to the white arrow on the end of the shaft and it's position in regards to the white dot. I checked my pictures and the picture in Fig. 3.4 and determined that the "White Dot" Settings listed in Fig. 3.5 would cause the pot to be rotated 180 degrees contrary to the picture in Fig. 3.4 (right) shown and, indeed, my own crossover network, also. When I took the reading from center post B to #2 at 3.25 ohms, the arrow pointed to the white dot when the pot was physically oriented the way it came out of the crossover. Is it possible that the notation for the mid-range pot should be R,B--->2=3-1/4ohms? Ironically, there is an old indentation on the Masonite board 180 degrees opposite of the actual location of the tab on the pot I removed. Very odd. Thoughts?
  9. Hey folks, I don't get over here very often to post, but I want you to know that the information provided here, and the folks behind the scenes here, are really appreciated by me. I received a call from an aquaintance of mine a week ago telling about an estate sale he had just gone to. He said there was a pair of AR3a's there that he bought for $10 and he asked, since I am an "audiophile," would I be interested in them, because, "...I see that they are going on eBay for hundreds of dollars." He is a longtime casual acquaintance that I've done a few favors for in the past and he was just returning the favor. I immediately told him, "Well, it depends..." and tried to explain to him the problems involved with surrounds, xovers, etc. I asked him if wanted to make money on them, and he told me, "...no, I just thought you might be interested in them." While still on the phone with him, I came here and took a look at the library, discovering this restoration document. Needless to say, I now own a pair of mismatched AR3a's that I will completely restore...my very first attempt at doing a complete restoration to a pair of speakers. I will post my progress when I start the process, probably when the fall/winter arrives. This document is invaluable to me, thank you for your hard work and dedication to helping us! d*-*b
