Veneer stain removal

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I was just reading about milk stain removal, from wood in particular.

Here is a few suggestions that may work with milk stains on speaker surfaces.

It also may work with planter water marks.

Try non-gel toothpaste, rubbing with grain.

Also try cream or liquid car polish, also rubbing with the grain.

Try a vinegar solution, 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water.

Also try a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution.

To raise a small veneer depression, not a cut, wet with water and use a soldering iron to heat the water in the depression.

The hot water will cause the veneer to swell slightly.

Just a thought for today.

I have had good luck removing a couple of almost impossible stains. Ink and burns. I use a NEW single edge razor blade held at almost 90deg to the wood and scrape the stained area. Scraping removes less wood than sandpaper and if done right it leaves the wood smoother than sand paper. If the burn is deep it can sometimes be raised using Dynaco Dan's suggestion of water and a hot iron. I place a wet thick cloth over the burn and place the hot iron on the cloth. This method wont raise all the burned wood back to the surface but it will bring some of it up and scraping with the blade will remove most if not all of the stain. I have raised dents of 3/4" using this method and the dent can't be seen when a little oil or Howards Restora Finish is applied.

Hi there

Just to be on the up and up, I read this in a Consumer Reports back issue, not my idea.
