  1. I know I'm a little late to the party on this thread (okay, a lot late) but I just restores a set of Model Twenty-Fours and a set of Twenty-Four Series II speakers. These speakers are identical to the Model Twenty-Twos. As near as I can tell, the Twenty-Fours were simply Twenty-Twos repurposed and renamed for inclusion in the Model Twenty-Four compact stereo. The difference between the two version of the Twenty-Four, like the two versions of the Twenty-Two, is in the crossover. The Twenty-Four has the same inductor and 4uF cap as the Twenty-Two and the Twenty-Four Series II has the same inductor, 8uF & 16uF caps and 3 ohm resistor as the Twenty-Two A. One other difference between the two types of Twenty-Four not found in the Twenty-Twos is that the Twenty-Four Series II has RCA plugs instead of binding posts. After rebuilding the crossovers in both pairs, I gave each pair a careful listen. I found the Series IIs to be slightly smoother and more balanced than the first generation Twenty-Four so I redid the crossovers in the Twenty-Fours to Series II specs. They're quite good speakers and have surprisingly good bass, considering the size of the woofer.
  2. A little late to the party but the Model Twenty-Four Series II uses the same woofer as the earlier version. So do the Model Twenty-Two, Twenty-Five and Twenty-Six. Probably some others do as well.
  3. To answer the above question, the 22 and 24, plus the 26 are identical and use an 8" woofer and 3.5" paper cone tweeter. (So too did the Model 25 console stereo.) The 17 uses a 10" woofer and a phenolic tweeter. Basically except for the 17s, they're all Model 22s. The 22s were offered as standalone speakers, while the 24s and 26 were the exact same speaker when included with the model 24 and 26 all-in-one systems. The 22s and 24s had conventional binding posts for speaker attachment, whereas the 24 Series II and 26 used RCAs. KLH used three different crossover designs for these. Some used the crossover in Angelo's photo above, others used the type shown in JKent's post and the third type is shown in the photo below. So far I've been unable to figure out date/model points for when the crossovers were updated/changed.

    metal grill dings

My L780 IIs had many, many dents in the grilles when I got them. Some of them were severe enough that the paint had flaked off. What I did was to place the grilles face down on a padded carpet and gently push the dents out with my thumb(s). It was surpisingly easy, a little tougher when the dent was right over one of the creases in the grilles, and it came out perfectly. After that I removed the emblems and shot them with a can of Krylon satin black spray paint. It was a perfect match to the original finish. Snap the emblem back in place and you're done.
