Bang & Olufsen Type K help needed!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am in the middle of restoring these vintage beauties and I cant make up my mind on one thing. Everything is already recapped and functions like I hoped it would, but there is one last decision to make. What type/kind of inner speaker cable would be best to use for the last stage between the crossover and speakerterminal?( which I have added to make it easier to swap outer speaker cables for best sonic results).

I am really interested in your thoughts, so please help me out, LOL!

Thanx in advance.

Well, Scandinavia is a long way from New England

For internal wiring I always use what CSP member RoyC recommends: Color-coded marine grade 18ga. wire, like this: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_11151_10001_35021_-1?ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=35021&cid=sc_googlepla&device=c&network=g&matchtype=&gclid=CPWPwqv4sLwCFSzNOgod4VYAmg#.UvAPULSzkU8

I recently worked on some Danish Jamo speakers and the xo was on a pcb but the wires from the xo to the terminals were standard 18 ga speaker wire.

Since you are asking about that last stage, 18 ga speaker wire should work fine. Also, there's no point buying 35' spools of wire if you only need a couple of feet. You "may" be able to buy wire by the foot at a good electronics store, but try to get the tinned kind. It resists corrosion and takes solder better.

One suggestion: If your B&O speakers have those goofy DIN connectors and if you haven't already done so, consider installing binding posts: http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/terminal-cups/

I built a VMPS subwoofer kit years ago and the wiring in that from the xo to the terminals was doubled-up heavy gauge Monster Cable. Overkill and a royal PITA to work with but if you're one who likes big fat speaker cables, you "could" go heavier on the internal wiring but there is absolutely no point in doing so. The point is, speaker wire is fine for that last stage.
