I have a pair of smaller Advents and I would like to re-work the crosovers. The caps. look easy, Can the old inductor be replaced with a new .44mH 18ga. inductor and say a 2 0hm 10watt resistor? any one have any upgrades to the stock x-o I can make?

I've attached a pic of a Baby Advent xover upgrade I did for a customer. I changed to an air core inductor and replaced the caps and resistors. I had to reconstruct the xover inside the cabinet as you see in the pic. It's doable.

Thanks Carl, I'll bet new x-os makes a big improvement in the sound of vintage speakers. I see you use mills resistors and solen caps. The speakers I have are called small Advents, not the same as Baby advents. I have read a lot about Advents in here and still not sure what value the inductors are, Best guess is 40 mH. but with 2.2 ohm dcr. Guess the only way to tell is to have some one with a inductance meter check them. I could use the old inductors, but they look tiny by todays standards. Half the fun is in the chase !

Carl,

This is one of those OLD threads where the sequence seems to have been reversed.

Your Baby Advent xo photo is no longer here. What are the values of the cap, resistor & inductor?

(or if anyone else has that info)

Thanks!

Kent

That's strange. I just created a post about the Baby Advent xo parts????

Anyway, here goes again, I found a 10 yr old file in my cellar that said I purchased a 3.3 uF solen cap, 0.8 mH air coil (PE P/N 260-729) and 2.5 ohm Mills resistor. Hope that helps and is the last post on the subject I have to make today! :-)
