I just posted a PDF copy of a draft that Roy Allison presented at the 99th AES convention in October of 1995 in the "Library additions and corrections" section. It deals with loudspeaker directivity.

Gosh Howard, don't hold back, tell us what you really think.It is called "Imaging and Loudspeaker Directivity: To Beam or Not to Beam." It was a short article dealing with a subject dear to the hearts of those few contemporary audio buffs who prefer classical or acoustic jazz music, as they would be heard in a live-hall space, in contrast to the electronic pop stuff that simulates nothing in the real world.
Without a live-music reference standard to go by, particularly if their home listening rooms are suboptimal, certain enthusiasts rather like beamy speakers.
