For those of you with relatively small loudspeakers who sometimes yearn for enhanced listening of large orchestral pieces at realistic levels and soundstage.

I'll have to try this my Onkyo has out's for near and wide field stereo speakers. so I can directly control a set in a four speaker stereo setup.

An interesting idea indeed. It's the first time I've heard of a threshold gate tho. I understand the concept as well as the idea, but have no clue where to find a threshold gate or what to search for.
