In Topic: Yet another AR-4x topic....

Three years later, as a senior in high school (after saving, saving, saving from my part-time job), I bought my 2ax's, along with a Dyna SCA-80 kit and a Phillips 202 turntable with a Shure M91ED. That was my first system.

What a great system. You never forget your first.

Steve,

That sounds like a great system!    Bet you wish you still had it. :)

Finally got the 4x's setup in my office!     Pretty cool looking.

They sound excellent for a large office area.

The Heathkit amp has no problem driving them.

Excellent little speakers. They even sound great in the dark....

Now on to the next project.....

ra.ra, thanks for the kind words.

yup, you were right all along.  You kept saying I would be delighted with the 4x's.   I must admit I was a little skeptical about how they would sound but that skepticism is completely gone.  I love these things!

There not going to take the place of the LST's or 3a's. I plan on taking them to work and setting them up in my office.  They won't get a lot of play time but my fellow employee's will truly enjoy them when I fire them up.

I have a Heathkit AA-15 amp I'll use to drive them.  Rated at a conservative 50 wpc it will make them sing.

I have to admit I love working on projects like these.  It gives me hours of satisfaction.

But now you've ruined everything....I had no plans for getting anymore speakers(except another set of LST's) and now I'll be checking ebay and Clist for a set of 6 or 7's

I wouldn't recommend using the gas soldering iron.  That get's way to hot for what you want to do.   As the other guys suggested a nice little 40 watt electric soldering iron is ideal.

Both sets of 9's I've done I removed the xovers but I replaced ALL the caps and it was much easier that way. Since your only replacing the caps for the uppers probably easier to leave the boards in.

Replacing the speaker wires won't hurt but won't help much either.

Good luck. Your going love those babies!

Well, excuse my language guys......but god damn, I'm impressed!

These things sound absolutely wonderful.    There not 3a or LST grade but for a small box they put out some very nice sound.

The bass is amazing for a 8" woofer and the highs are very crisp.

I like them, I like them a lot!

Thanks guys for all threads recommending these little gems, I never would have thought about picking up a set.

Now I have to decide if I want another set and stack 'em!

I forgot to mention a put a little explanation in each cabinet about the 25 Ω resistor and L-pad in the xover so the next who gets them will understand what it's all about.....long after I'm gone.

I can highly recommend the 4x's if anyone is looking for some very nice speakers for a small or medium location
