I grew up in Lancaster PA, which is where I bought my first set of AR-5s, which I sold -- regrettably. But, i did have the good sense to replace them with my Dynaco A-25s, which have been with me ever since the mid-1970s. These have been recapped and new tweeters. Now I live in Monterey, CA and work as a professor at the Naval Postgraduate School. I dived back into my audiophile roots and have restored a set of AR 2AXs (new controls, caps, reformed woofers, new tweeters, and refinished cabinets). They sound just fabulous. I also bought a pair of AR 4Xs on Craigslist that have been recapped. I"m in the midst of an AR 3A restoration -- new caps, new rheostats, reckoned woofers and cabinet refinishing. I've also picked up a set of KLH 26s at a flea market for $5. They sound better than the AR 4Xs in my opinion. Am awaiting the arrival of some used AR-5s -- then my collection will be complete.
